Up North
I was in Buffalo to shoot a series of commercials that are currently running on YouTube ads, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. The entire shoot, which included office B-roll, doctor interviews, and patient testimonials, lasted just under four hours — a necessary constraint since the office still had patients coming in and out. Part of the game plan was to have rough cuts ready that same night to begin setting up the campaigns. Bada bing!
The final cuts of each are currently running on YouTube ads, Amazon prime, Hulu, and Spectrum cable tv in the Buffalo and Rochester area. I monitor performance on each and modify budget and demographics if needed. YouTube Ads are tricky because of certain restrictions regarding medical procedures and surgical imagery. I’m usually on top of any content revisions needed to get past these restrictions, something that helps if you make content yourself. Any downtime running ads will leave a gap in capturing potential leads. It can be a headache getting creatives up and running consistently again once they’re stopped. The main goal is brand and procedure awareness with the intention of garnering consultations and appointments. These patient stories are genuine life-changing experiences, which is why they opted to go on camera to help others address their dental health.
We also decided to visit Niagara Falls which I’ve never seen in person. I brought a Blackmagic 6K and Blazar anamorphic lens with the Helios 44m as a taking lens. Not having built in stabilization made it impossible to get any clips without micro vibrations so I had to prop the camera on walls, trash cans, and tables around the falls.
After seeing the footage on a large monitor I realized the Helios was causing a lot of haze potentially due to its age and residual moisture. On the plus side, it gives an interesting vintage look.
